Evan was living in Akron Ohio when DEVO sparked big label interest in other artists there. Evan's song, "Ride, Rider," on the Akron compilation LP, Bowling Balls from Hell, was praised by Billboard Magazine as a best cut. Evan went to California to find indie label interest, signed many good songs to publishers and was booking agent and Emcee at the Mad Dog in the Fog in San Francisco.  At the Mad Dog,he offered an encouraging  environment for singers to play their music.
